Why is the heart known as the muscular pump?

The heart has to pump blood into the arteries which spread it to every part of the body. Its walls are made up of muscles and a supporting framework of fibres which are so flexible that when they contract, they squeeze out blood into the arteries. That is why the heart is known as muscular pump.
