Where are Tapirs found?
Tapers have four toes on each forefoot and three on each hind foot, a short movable trunk and extremely simple lophodont molars.
The Brazilian Tapir stands a metre at the shoulder and is metros in length. It looks like an enormous pig. Its skin is without fold and its coat is short and thick.lt is dark brown with a white fringe to its ear. They feed on a variety of leaves and fruits doing damage to sugar plantations and destroying young cocoa trees.
Normally solitary and silent. they grunt when disturbed and emit a piercing whistle in the rutting season. Then the males and females seek each other out and stay together for a few weeks, after which they separate again. The mother alone cares for and brings up her off-spring, never more than one which is born after thirteen month of gestation. At birth the coat is ornamented with rows of white spots which later disappear.
