Akbar, Jalal-ud-Din
Akbar, Jalal-ud-Din (1542-1605), Mogul emperor of India Crowned king of a small north-west Indian kingdom at 14, he began his personal rule in 1560 and embarked on a campaign of conquest. By 1586 he ruled an area now covered by Pakistan, northern India, and Bangladesh. Although a Muslim, Jalal-ud-Din allied himself with the Hindus and founded his empire on stable administration and religious toleration.
