Badi Saheba

Badi Saheba, .fl. mid. 17th cent., queen-regent of Bijapur. Widow of Sultan Muhammad Adil Shah (d. 1656) she took over the management of the State in the name of her son Ali Adil Shah II, after the death of her husband in 1656. She had advised her general, Afzal Khan to lure Shivaji by pretending friendship and to capture him dead or alive. Power was wrested from her hands by her son in 1660, and she sailed for Mecca the next year.
