Ghasiti Begam
Ghasiti Begam, 1757, aunt of Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula of Bengal. Eldest daughter of Alivardi Khan, the Nawab of Bengal (1740-56) she was married to Nawazish Muhammad, the son of his elder brother. After the death of her husband as governor of Dacca, she returned to Murshidabad. She very much angered Siraj-ud-Daula because she did not support his succession, and he murdered her trusted agent Husain Quli Khan. When in 1756 Alivardi Khan fell mortally ill, she shifted to Moti Jhill , a place about three kilometres away, to carry on the conspiracy against Siraj. However, he was able to win her over and bring her back to Murshidabad where she was placed under surveillance. But after his defeat at Plassey and his murder (2 July 1757) she was placed in a boat by the agents of Mir Jafar, along with the mother of Siraj, taken to the middle of the river Buri Ganga, and drowned.
