Kanhopatara
Kanhopatara, 1470, poet-saint of Maharashtra. She was the daughter of a dancing girl of Pandharpur, and was reputed to be very beautiful. She refused to follow the profession of her mother and even refused to become the mistress of the Mughal emperor, and joined a group of devotees of good Vithal. She spent her life singing and dancing before the deity in her temple at Pandharpur, and composed many abhangas (devotional songs).
