Lakshmibayamma Unnava
Lakshmibayamma Unnava, 1884-1956. social and political’ worker. Born in a midble-class Brahmin family of Guntur, now in Andhra Pradesh, she was married at the age of 13 to the novelist and philosopher, Unnava Lakshminarayana. She was pioneer of widow marriage for which she and her husband had to suffer social boycott and humiliation. She also actively participated in national movements and was arrested a number of times. She founded a residential school 1, it women, Saradani ketanam, at Guntur, in 1923 which was affiliated to Andhra University in 1944. During her last years she became very unpopular and the institution was taken over by the Government.
