Qudsia Begum
Qudsia Begum, .fl. 1816-37, ruler of Bhopal. Daughter of Ghaus Mohammad Khan, she was married to Nazar Muhammad Khan, who succeeded Wazir khan as the ruler of Bhopal in 1816. The Nawab was accidently killed in about 1818 and it was decided that she should act as the regent to her husband’s nephew Munir Muhammad Khan, who should also marry her daughter Sikandar Begurn. The Begum, however, wanted to retain the power in her own hands, and though Munir Muhammad resigned in favour of his younger brother, Jahangir, dissension continued which led to British intervention. Qudsia Begum was removed in 1837 and retired on a life pension.
