Radhabai Peshwa
Radhabai Peshwa, d.1753, Mahratha princess. A daughter of the Barve family of Maharashtra, she was the wife of Peshwa Balaji Vishvanath, and bore him four children, the eldest of whom, the great Bajirao, was made the Peshwa after his father’s death in 1720. She survived her husband for 33 years and played a significant role in Mahratha history as the adviser to her son, Bajirao, and after his death in 1740, to her grandson, Peshwa Balaji Bajirao. In 1935 she made a pilgrimage to the sacred cities of northern India and was most courteously received by Rajput princes, and the Mughal officials.
