Ranadil
Ranadil, 1659. wife of Dara Shukoh. Originally a Hindu dancing girl at the palace, she was exceptionally beautiful, and Dara Shukoh fell in love with her, and married her. She remained faithful to the name of Dara even after his execution, and when Aurangzeb desired to take her into his harem, she cut off her tresses, and slashed her face to make herself look ugly and abhorrent to Aurangzeb. He later treated her with highest respect, but she did not live long.
