Elton John
Elton John, original name Reginald Kenneth Dwight (1947- ). British rock singer, songwriter, and pianist. He began working as a pub pianist in 1964, earning £1 a night. In the mid 1960s he began his longstanding collaboration with the lyricist Bernie Taupin. His album Elton John (1970) was well received in the US and in-ternational success followed with Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only the Piano Player and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (both 1973). He became well known for his flamboyant stage appearances and eccentric dress. Later hits include ‘Sacrifice’ (1990). An enormously wealthy man, he is president of Watford Football Club.
