Mungo Park
Mungo Park, (1771-1806). Scottish explorer. In 1795 he sailed to Gambia and travelled inland to explore the course of the Niger. On returning to Britain he described his adventures in Travels in the Interior Districts of Africa (1797). On a second expedition to the Niger (1805) he was attacked by natives and drowned.
