Francisco Pizzaro
Francisco Pizzaro, (1478-1541). Spanish adventurer. In 1530, .under powers granted by Charles V of Spain, Pizarro led the expedition to Peru that conquered the Incas. He also founded Lima (1535), the present capital of Peru. Pizarro and his partner Almagro became rich from the spoils of their conquests, but the division of the gold caused a quarrel, and Pizarro was killed by the followers of Almagro.
