Domenico Scarlatti
Domenico Scarlatti, (1685-1757). Italian composer and harpsichordist. The son of the composer Alessandro Scarlatti, he studied with his father and in 1701 became composer and organist to the Naples court. He subsequently worked in Venice and in Rome, where he is said to have taken part in a harpsichord-playing con-test with Handel. His works include operas and 600 harpsichord sonatas.
