Tom Stoppard
Tom Stoppard, (1937- ). British dramatist, born in Czechoslovakia His family came to England in 1946. He worked as a journalist for a time and began writing for radio and television in 1960. In 1966 he achieved international fame with his play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. His subsequent plays, which are noted for their verbal brilliance and ingenious juggling of ideas, include Jumpers (1972), Travesties (1974), Night and Day (1978), The Real Thing (1982), Arcadia (1993), and Indian Ink (1995).
