Decentralization of Power

The decentralization of power at the lowest level of the society is meant to educate and involve the common people in the management of their own affairs.

Local Administration in Urban Areas: The local administration in the urban areas in known as municipal administration. There are three types of local urban bodies namely, Corporation, Municipality and Notified Area Council depending on the size of the city.

All these three bodies perform more or less the same type of work. These organizations function through the elected members of the city. These bodies collect taxes to run the administration but it is too meager to meet their expenses. They heavily depend on the state government of funds.

Advantages

The advantages of decentralization of powers are:

It pays greater attraction to the solution of local problems.

Creates local leadership.

Creates consciousness in the lowest level of the society

It also works as a laboratory of democracy to experiment new policies.

 

Disadvantages:

The disadvantages of decentralization of powers are:

It creates feeling of regionalism among the people.

The local leaders fail to appreciate the national problems.
