Tansen
Tansen was the greatest composer and musician in Hindustani classical music. He was also known as Miyan Tansen or Ramtanu Pande. He was a gifted vocalist and also an instrumentalist who improved and popularised the rabab. The title Miyan was given to him by Mughal Emperor Akbar and he was the Navaratnas (nine jewels) at the court of Akbar.The large collection of raga compositions of Tansen has become a part of the Hindustani tradition. He also authored Sangeeta Sara and Rajmala that constitute important documents on music. It is said that he did miracles with his singing and could create fire by singing raag ‘Deepak’ and could create rain by singing the monsoon raag ‘Megh Malhar’.
