Zakir Hussain
Ustad Zakir Hussain was born in Mumbai on March 9, 1951. He is one of the greatest Tabla players from India. He started touring by the age of 12 and today performs no fewer than 150 concerts per year. Till date, he has worked with number of Indian as well as western artist and has produced several work of fusion.Some of the prestigious awards that Zakir has received for his vast contribution to the world of music include Padma Shri (1988), Indo-American Award (1990), Sangeet Natak Akademi (1991) and many more. He is a founding member of Bill Laswell’s ‘World Music Supergroup’ Tabla Beat Science and teaches Tabla to advanced students in both San Francisco and Mumbai.
