Project Name : Microbial Fuel Cell
Theme Name : Energy Resource & Conservation
In order to reduce pollution, we need to develop alternate and renewable sources of energy. A microbial fuel cell is a bio electro chemical device which converts waste water into electricity. As part of its digestive process, bacteria create electrons in an anaerobic environment. This is due to a REDOX reaction. The electrons are pulled out of the solution onto an electrode and are conducted through an external circuit due to existence of a potential difference between the two chambers. The PEM and salt bridge separate anode and cathode yet completing the circuit hence generating electricity.
Advantages:
1. Ideal in Indian scenario.
2. No pollution.
3. Use of waste water as a fuel.
4. Almost zero cost requiring low maintenance.
5. Constant increment in voltage due to bacterial reproduction.
