Dangers of Smoking

It goes without saying that smoking is a dangerously bad habit. It causes many fatal diseases. It causes cancer, heart attack, chronic bronchitis and some other diseases. One puff of cigarette contains fifteen billion particles of injurious matters. Nicotine is one of them. It prevents the free flow of blood through the veins. This reduces the supply of oxygen in the body. It damages our lungs. People addicted to smoking lose their appetite for food and energy for power. Smoking also pollutes the environments and they are, beside, it causes irritation in the eye, offends the nose and unsettles the mind. Smoking is so dangerous that the stench of cigarette is repulsive to a non-smoker. Moreover, it wastes a lot of money. We are very fortunate that there is no smoker in our family. It is very essential to ban smoking in public places so that smokers cannot do any harm to non-smokers.

Hazards of Smoking
There are many students and adults who smoke today. It has become fashionable to have a cigarette in one’s hand. While in school or college young boys and girls begin to taste tobacco and soon some of them get addicted to it.
Although there are enough warnings against smoking, one does not pay any heed to them and one continues to smoke, Some smoke to become more accepted in a particular section of society.
They forget that such “smoking is highly injurious to health”. A person feels that he might be considered inadequate if he does not smoke but that is a very wrong notion.
In the beginning, a person takes a few puffs for fun. Later these puffs increase and one still believes that one is not addicted to them and one has good control over oneself. However, soon the frequency and degree of smoking increases and one finds that one is really become a slave to it.
Soon a smoker begins to ruin his health, It is a paradox that despite the warning on all cigarette packets that “smoking is injurious to health” there has been a substantial spurt in the marketing of cigarettes. A study of the balance sheets of leading tobacco companies revealed the fabulous amounts of profits made by them.
Smokers are losing thousands of rupees by smoking cigarettes and then paying the doctors to restore their health to them.
To discourage smoking which causes cancer of the lung etc, there have to be concrete measures taken. The increase in prices, the removal of shops selling these from close to the campus etc. could be some of the ways by which smoking can be wiped away.
Smokers have slow will power and they are often found becoming restless and irritable. When they don’t smoke for a long time they remain healthy and active. Smoking is one of the best ways to commit slow suicide.
That is the reason why it has been said that one should not even try a puff of a cigarette, because this is what gives birth to all problems and stays with those problem.
