The Degeneration of Culture
Culture is the set of values, traditions, and literature on which a society thrives. Culture is what our ancestors have felt, apprehended, and sensed most deeply in their heart in the course of thousands and thousands of years which has converted the animal in man into a human. But today, lost in the dazzle of materialistic and sensual pleasures, we fail to understand what a primrose at the bank of a river means to our life. We are pleased to see neon lights but we are blind to the glorious diffusion of colours on the horizon at dawn and dusk. We are dressed in orlon and terylene but we are cold toward every sensuous emotion. We have photographed the starry universe from the telescope at Palomer, but the stars are dead to us. We reveal in all labels like Doctorates and Masters of Arts and Science; but we have safely forgotten that education is self-knowledge or have safely forgotten that education is self-knowledge or enlightenment and not a means for a lucrative profession. It is only when a community is gifted with an animated spirit that every aspect of its life is refined. Civilization with an animated spirit spreads its fragrance everywhere and leaves its blessedness on all things of life. The economic, social, political and the creative fields, one and all should be permeated through and through with the blessedness of culture. Thus, culture is not the domain of one group of people or restricted to one aspect of human life but it is the enlivening of all.
