Tradition is the basis of all innovations
The course of life and thought is a continuity. “There is a functional identity in the series of ideas arising in our mind,” said James, the American psychologist. One thought leads to another. Thinking is like a stream. The stream rises and falls, slows down or becomes rapid. Such is the working of man’s mind. It has, and must-have, a store of basic ideas which enable him to take in new. The basic ideas are the tradition, which is the sum total of what has already been known, seen and practised. Just as we think on the basis of existing knowledge, we develop new forms and theories on the basis of traditional thought and theories.
