Water Shortage
My city is the capital and one of the biggest in the country. It has a large population and we have a limited supply of water. The source of water remains the same but the number of houses using that water increases each passing year. This has led to an acute water problem, especially in some colonies in Delhi.
When there is a water shortage life comes to a standstill. We cannot bathe even though the heat makes us dirty and sweaty. The refrigerators run dry with no cold water to quench our thirst. Clothes cannot be washed, dishes remain soiled, the floors cannot be swopped, the coolers don’t function no matter how high the temperature is. In short, life becomes hell when there is no water.
Some people have to wait for hours in lines to till water in buckets and tanks when the Colony gets its supply from water tankers. Each one struggles to keep his home equipped with a good deal of water.
Parks and gardens dry up, flowers and plants wither away, even the birds and household pets don’t get any water from the house. They leave home in search of water to keep cool and free of thirst.
The government has now begun to advertise through the media that we must all be responsible citizens of India. We have to preserve each drop of water. Trees have to be grown, so that we get more rain. Food needs water to grow in fields and even the farmer is totally dependant on water.
A shortage of water in the city or in a village is equally threatening. If we want to avoid this problem, we should preserve all that we have, every drop of water is precious and we have to remain conscious of how we utilize each drop of it.
