“How do the CFCs cause the breakdown of Ozone?” Important Questions and Answers for Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12

How do the CFCs cause the breakdown of Ozone?

When the CFCs are released in the atmosphere, they reach the Ozone layer. The ultraviolet radiation strikes the CFC and releases Chlorine from it. This reacts with Ozone breaking it down into different forms of Oxygen. The Chlorine molecule itself remains unchanged and so it continues to destroy Ozone, over and over again.
