How does the Ozone layer protect us?
The Ozone layer is a layer of gases occurring about 10 to 50 km above the earth’s surface. It absorbs most of the dangerous UV rays of the sun and is itself broken down to molecules of Oxygen and single atoms of Oxygen. These forms again reunite with others which have been similarly broken in the presence of a catalyst (Nitrogen) to reform Ozone. In this way Ozone filters the UV radiation and only a reduced amount reaches the earth’s surface.
