How is cigarette smoking injurious to health?
Tobacco is smoked in the form of cigarettes. It is a habit forming substance as it effects the nerves. Tobacco smoking causes inflammation of the membrane lining of the nose, throat, trachea, lungs and causes cough, irritation and even lung cancer. Nicotine present in tobacco causes contraction of the blood vessels. It may lead to heart attack in older people as their blood vessels are already narrow by arterio sclerosis. It also increases the blood pressure and puts a strain on the heart.
Tobacco smoking is even harmful to those people, who do not smoke but remain in the company of smoke but remain in the company of smokers. Cigarette fumes containing gases like carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide and unoxidised nicotine have an equally damaging effect on passive smokers as on active smokers.
