How is silk obtained from silk worms?
Silkworms feed on mulberry leaves which are soft and juicy and ideal for their grazing. Well fed worms start spinning cocoons around themselves. They produce a liquid which hardens in the air to form the fine silk thread. These cocoons are put into boiling hot water to loosen the threads for winding and to kill the worms inside. The threads from many cocoons are would together to make a stronger thread.
