Independence Day (15th August) in India

India achieved its independence from the British rule on 15th day of of August, 1947. Hence, Independence Day is celebrated in India on 15th of August every year. On this day, the tricolor Indian National Flag is hoisted. Tributes and honor are paid to the national heroes. The President of India in Delhi and the Governors in the state capitals hold receptions in the evening.
Independence day plays a very important role in the life of all the Indians. 15th August, 1947, is a day which is engraved into the hearts of all the Indians. On this day, India got its freedom from the clutches of the British Rule after so many hard battles and struggles. For any country, Independence Day is a day of Pride and Glory. Every Indians pay the tributes to the freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose and many more, who fought for their country and sacrificed their own lives.
On this day, Jawaharlal Nehru delivered a speech ‘Tryst with Destiny? which announces the freedom of the motherland India. These announcements raise the spirits all over the country. It was a dream for every Indians to get free from the British Rule and finally when it was happening they all feel pride. It was actually a night of celebration throughout the country.
But it’s true that to gain something, something to be lose. So on the eve of Independence, the dispute between Hindus and Muslims resulted in the formation of a new nation named Pakistan. Independence Day is celebrated in Pakistan on 14th August every year.
Schools, colleges and other social organization arrange a function in which boys and girls take participate in the honour of the great freedom fighters. Main ceremony is held in New Delhi at the Red Fort where Prime Minister of India hoists the National Flag of India and deliver a speech standing inside a bulletproof podium.

Independence Day
15th August is a historical day for India. It is our Independence day. This day, after a long and hard struggle, India won freedom from the clutches of the Britishers. It was a unique war of non-violence which was led by great leaders, like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Gokhle, Lala Lajpat Rai, Tilak, Sardar Patel and Bhagat Singh.
It was a mass movement in which common people took an active part. It was a result of the sacrifice of selfless leaders and people, who dedicated their lives for future generations.
On 15th August 1947, the nation celebrated its first Independence Day. It was a day of rejoicing and pride. Our first Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru, hoisted the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi. This was the dawn of a new era. It was a promise of progress and prosperity.
The Independence Day since then is celebrated every year all over the country. On this day, the sky is filled with the tricolour flags. Like thousands of rainbows, the flags flew in the sky over lofty buildings. Almost every institution, school, office and college celebrates the flag hoisting ceremony.
The schools organize special assemblies in which homage is paid to those who laid their lives for the Independence of the country. Patriotic songs and re-enactment of the 0 famous episodes of Independence struggle are performed. These motivate the children to serve the nation and be ready to sacrifice. Painting, dance, music and drama competitions are organised to commemorate the occasion. The newspapers publish special supplements on the Independence day.
The Independence day reminds us of the dedication, suffering and struggle of our freedom fighters and leaders, who gave India the freedom. It is our duty to protect the freedom of the country. For this, we should remain united and work for the progress of the country. This day should not be just a ritual, but we should think of the poor who are still not free from poverty, hunger and slavery. Freedom has brought cheers to every Indian.
