Sada Kaur
Sada Kaur, d.1832, Sikh princess. Wife of Gurbaksh Singh of the Kanhya Misl, whom she succeeded as the leader of Kanhya misi at her husband’s death, who was killed in a battle in 1784, she married her daughter, Mahtab Kaur, to young Ranjit Singh, She exercised great influence on the young son-in law and became his guardian on the death of his father in 1792. She was associated with Ranjit Singh in the capture of Lahore (1799) which established his hold on Punjab, and inspired him to fight the Afghans. She later plotted his downfall and entered into treasonable negotiations with Metcalfe (1802). In 1821, her estate was seized by Ranjit Singh, and she was placed under custody when she was apprehended trying to cross into the British territory.
