Baiza Bai
Baiza Bai, 1862, Maharani of Gwalior. She was married to Daulat Rao Sindhia in 1798 and was widowed in 1827. She was an ambitious lady, and sought to gain the control of the State for herself after the death of her husband, but was induced to adopt a son, Jankoji Rao (1827-43). Though she was made the regent, differences developed with the British who intervened and she was forced to flee from Gwalior, in July 1833. She is believed to have initiated the movement against the British which ultimately led to the revolt of 1857.
