Lalleshvvari
Lalleshvvari, also known as Lalla Yogishwari, or Lat Diddi, fl. 14th cent., Kashmiri poet and mystic. Born in a Kashmiri pandit family of Pandrenthan, near Srinagar, her life is mostly shrouded in legends and miracles. She was a follower of the Saiva saint Sed Bayu or Sidda Sri Kantha, whom she later defeated in arguments, and spent all her life wandering and singing all over Kashmir as a Saivite nun. She is reputed to have died at an advance age at Brijbihara, near Srinagar. She is the author of Lalla Vakhyan (`Wise sayings of Lalla) written in old Kashmiri.
