Akhtar Mahal, mid. 19th cent, Princess of Avadh. Consort of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last king of Avadh (deposed 1856), she was the daughter of Ali Naqi Khan, the chief wazir, and the mother of the second heir, Mirza Khush Bakht Bahadur. She accompanied the deposed ruler to Calcutta in 1856.
