Avvaiyar
Avvaiyar, ff. ca. 11th cent., Tamil poet. She was the daughter of a Bramhin father and a low-caste mother. She lived for many years at the court of Neduman Auji of Tagadur in South India, and after his death, she wandered about the Chera country, and the Chola territory. She wrote a number of odes in Tamil which are still remembered, and her name is regarded as synonymous with wisdom.
