Basanti Devi
Basanti Devi, 1880-1974, social and political worker. Widow of the great Chittaranjan Das whom she had married in 1897, she, along with her husband, gave up life of luxury, to join the Non-Co-operation Movement. She was arrested (1921) for advocating the use of Khaddar and for her national activities. She continued to work for social welfare even after the death of her husband in 1925, but later retired from active political life because of her age.
