Ganna Begum
Ganna Begum, 1915, Persian beauty. Daughter of the Persian noble Ali Quli K.han, who had migrated in India In 1734, her mother, was originally a dancing girl whom her father had married in India. Many nobles, including Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah, sought her hand because of her beauty and other accomplishments, but she was married by her mother to Imad-ul-Mulk, the powerful wazir of Delhi. This infuriated Mughlani Begum whose daughter, Umda Begum, had been betrothed to him in childhood. At the instigation of Mughlani Begum, the Afghan invader, Ahmad Shah Abdali forced Imad to marry Umda Begum (21 February 1757) and to divorce Ganna Begum, who was handed over to her rival as a bondsmaid.
