Gauri Ma
Gauri Ma, 1857-1938, educationist and social reformer. Daughter of Parvati Charan Chattopadhya of Sibpur, Howrah, she was originally named Maridani. Inspited by Sri Ramakrishna, she established an ashram near Barrackpore for the uplift of women and helpless girls, which was shifted to more spacious permanent headquarters in Calcutta, in 1924. Her entire career was devoted to the education of women in Bengal, and to their social uplift.
