Gul Bai
Gul Bai, 1658, Mahratha lady, Her husband, Avji, held a high position under the Siddi Janjira on the west coast, but later incurred his displeasure ; and she along with her three children, including the eldest, Balaji, were ordered to be exiled to Muscat. She, however, managed to escape, by bribing the captain, and sought shelter with her brother Visaji at Rajapur. Gul Bai and her children lived at Rajapur under assumed names till about 1658 when her eldest son, Balaji, met Shivaji and became his chitnis (secretary).
