Hamida Banu Begum
Hamida Banu Begum,1527-1603, Mughal princess, and mother of Emperor Akbar. She was the daughter of Shaikh Ali Ambar Jaina, and was married to Humayun (d. 1556) in 1542, during his wanderings in the desert of Sind. On 23 November 1542, she gave birth to Akbar at Umarkot and shared a long exile with her husband at the Persian court. She later advised Akbar to get rid of the regent Bairam Khan and to take the control in his own hands. She died at Agra on 29 August 1603 at the age of about 80, and is burried in the tomb of her husband at Delhi, which was built by her in his memory.
