Hazarat Beg Am
Hazarat Beg Am, 1740, Mughal princess. Daughter of Emperor Muhammad Shah (d. 1748), her youthful beauty had excited the aged emperor Alamgir II who came to the throne in 1754, but she refused to marry him (Feb. 1756). A few months later, however, her hand was demanded by the Afghan invader, Ahmad Shah Abdali who sacked Delhi in 1756. No entreaties could have any effect on him, and on 5 April 1756 she was sent to the camp of Abdali amidst the wailing of the women of the harem, and was taken away to Afghanistan.
