Jahanzeb or Jani Begurn
Jahanzeb, or Jani Begurn, d. 1705, Mughal princess. Daughter of Dara Shukoh and Nadira Begum, she joined her father and mother in the flight from Agra in May 1658, and shared all their privations and wanderings. She was captured, along with her father in Sind in June 1659, and brought to Delhi in captivity. Though her life was spared, she was badly treated by Aurangzeb’s sister, Roshanara. However, on the entreaties of Jahanara, she was sent to Agra to join Emperor Shahjahan and Jahanara in captivity. Her education and upbringing were looked after by Jahanara, and she grew up into a beautiful woman. In 1669 she was married to Muhammad Azam, the third son of Aurangzeb, who was killed in the war of succession, in June 1707.
