Janapadkalyani
Janapadkalyani, also called Subhadrangi, fl. ca. 290 B.C., Mauryan princess, mother of Asoka. Daughter of a Brahmin of Champa, she became one of the wives of the Mauryan emperor, Bindusara (d. 273 B.C.). Originally kept out of the King’s favour by other queens, she succeeded in winning his love and bore him two sons, Asoka and Vigatasoka.
