Khair-un-Nissa
Khair-un-Nissa, d. ca. 1805, Hyderabadi beauty. Daughter of a noble family of Persian descent of Hyderabad, she fell in love with Major James Kirkpatrick, the British Resident at the court of the Nizam of Hyderabad. She first became his mistress, and after a son was born to them, she was officially married to him. The marriage was approved by the Nizam, who adopted the Resident as his son. Nevertheless, the marriage created much problems for the Resident with the governor-general, Lord Wellesley, who deputed John Malcolm to enquire into the affair.
