Lakshmi Amman
Lakshmi Amman, 1799, Dowager-Maharani of Mysore. Widow of Chikka Krishnaraj Wodeyar, the ousted ruler of Mysore, she had entered into an agreement with the British against Tipu Sultan. Though all her earlier attempts had been foiled, she, unknown to Tipu, established contacts with Lord Wellesley, which led to the fall of Srirangapatam and with it, the end of Tipu (4 May 1799). Her five year old son was put on the throne by the British, as a puppet ruler.
