Mah Chuchak Begum
Mah Chuchak Begum, 1564, Mughal princess. One of the most remarkable princesses of the Mughal period who created considerable problems for Akbar during the early years of his reign, she was one of the wives of Humayun whom she married in 1546. In 1556, her son, Mirza Muhammad Hakim was made the governor of Kabul while still a child, and was placed under the guardianship of Munim Khan. She was a very ambitious lady, and when Munim Khan was recalled to Delhi by Akbar in 1560, she ousted his son Ghani Khan, and took direct control of Kabul. She also removed two other ministers through murder. In 1563 her forces defeated Munim Khan who sought to return to Kabul. She gave refuge to a Sayyid noble, Shah Abdul Mali, who had escaped from Lahore, and to strengthen her position, she married her daughter to him. But he resented the domination of her mother-in-law and put her to death.
