Mahadamba
Mahadamba, 13th cent., Marathi poet. Probably the earliest of the Marathi woman writers, she flourished during the times of the Yadava king, Mahadeo of Devagiri, who made her a grant of five villages. She was the grand-daughter of Vamanacharya who acted as the priest to the ruling family, and was widowed at an early age. A follower of Chakravadl asa, the founder of the Mahanubhava cult, she has written many celebrated poems in Marathi on the life and loves of Krishna, including Dhavale songs (lullabies).
