Mata Sundari
Mata Sundari, (i. 1747, Sikh saint. Wife of the tenth guru, Gobind Singh (d. 1708) she was left in Punjab while her husband proceeded to Deccan in the company of Emperor Bahadur Shah, who had succeeded Aurangzeb. After the death of her husband in Nander, she was living at Delhi, and had adopted her step-son, Ajit Singh, though she did not surrender the arms of her husband to him, which led to violent quarrels between the two. She later repudiated him completely because of his apostasy. She also wrote a letter to the adventurer, Banda Bahadur, that now that the governor of Sirhind has met his justice, he should avoid further carnage. She later left Delhi, and went to Mathura. All her property was restored to her, when she returned to Delhi.
