Mridula Sarabhai
Mridula Sarabhai, 1911-74, political and social worker. Daughter of the Sarla and Ambalal Sarabhai, the fabulously rich industrialists of Ahmedabad, she became a prominent worker in the cause of freedom since 1927. She participated in the Salt Satyagraha at Ahmedabad (1930) and the Rajkot Satyagraha (1938) and was imprisoned many times. She worked actively for the defence during INA trials in 1946, and played exceptionally remarkable role during the communal riots of 1947. She was known for her very strong views on Kashmir and Sheikh Abdullah. She did not marry. Her mother, Sarladevi (b. 1896) was also a well-known Congress worker.
