Mughlani Begum
Mughlani Begum, 1779. mother-regent of Punjab. Widow of Muin-ul-Mull: (d. 1753) the last Mugh al governor of Punjab, she became the virtual ruler of Punjab after the death of her husband as the regent-mother to her infant son. A woman of loose character she soon scandalized the people by her unbridled activities, particularly after the death of her son in May 1754. Frequent rebellions broke out through Punjab, and though she was often ousted she still managed to retain her position by appealing to the Afghans, and the Wazir of Delhi, Imad-ul-Mulk. In February 1756 she was kidnapped at the instance of the Wazir and sent to Delhi where she ingratiated herself with the Afghan invader, Ahmad Shah Abdali, in 1757. She revealed to him all the treasures and the particulars of the beauties in the imperial harem. She was later snubbed by Abdali, and after many changes in fortune in which she was reduced to penury, She settled in Jammu and died in obscurity.
