Nadira Begurn
Nadira Begurn, d.1659, Mughal princess. Daughter of Parwez, the elder brother of Shah Jahan, she was married to Dara Sukoh (d. 1659) on 23 January 1634. She remained a steadfast companion and comrade of her unfortunate husband in all his wanderings and misfortunes, and died of exhaustion in May 1659, at Dadar in Sind, where her husband had fled to escape capture by Aurangzeb. A beautiful autographed album of paintings presented to her by her husband in 1641-42 is in India Office Library. Of her two sons, the elder Sulaimain Shukoh was killed by slow poisoning by Aurangzeb in May 1662, but the younger, Sipihr Shukoh, was spared and married to his third daughter.
