Nawab Bai
Nawab Bai, d.1691, Mughal princess, one of the wives of Aurangzeb. Originally named Rahmat-un-Nisa, she was the daughter of Raja Raju of Rajauri, in Kashmir. Reputed to be very beautiful, she was demanded by Shahjahan for the royal harem, and was later married to his son, Aurangzeb. She became the mother of his son, Bahadur Shah 1, after whose accession to the throne, a false pedigree was invented to show that she was a Muslim by birth. She lost her charms early, and with it the favour of her husband. Her life was further embittered by the conflicts between her other sons, Muhammad Sultan and Muazzam.
